De Beer’s Child Care Facility was established in May 2005.   Our aim is to provide an affordable place of safety and education for children in our community.

We cater for children from single parent families, families with low or no income, as well as children of school going mothers who wish to further their education.  We have also attracted children who were crammed into “one roomed” accommodations in large numbers as the parents had no choice due to financial constraints, children who were taken care of by siblings, who are just children themselves, often playing in the streets and children whose only meals are the food we provide for them.

The need for our facility is so great and to date we are still overwhelmed with applications for enrollment,  especially in view of the fact that we provide for  very small babies as well, some as young as 2 weeks old.

We are proud to be able to offer our facility to the community and to provide a service which allows the parents to either go to work, look for work or go back to school, knowing that their children are safe, fed, warm, well taken care of and educated whilst playing and having fun.

We have regular visits from the Health Care Department and have taken part in the measles and polio campaign.  Immunizations are also conducted at the school.

We currently accommodate 50 children in our caring and safe environment.

De Beer’s Child Care Facility operates from 06:00 in the morning, in order for the parents to get to their transport or work on time and we only close once the last child has been collected which is approximately 18:00 in the evening.

The children are served 2 meals a day as well as 2 teas, these consist of the following:

8:00   Breakfast         :           Jungle Oats, Mielie Meal Porridge, Weatbix

                                                or Cornflakes.

10:00    Tea                  :           Snack and juice, tea or Milo

12:00    Lunch               :           Meat  (Chicken, Fish, Mince, etc..)

                                                Vegetables

                                                Pasta, rice or potatoes

                                                and

                                                Pudding or Fruit

15:00    Tea                  :           Snack and juice, tea or Milo

(On a Friday we indulge the children and allow them to have “junk food” this consists of healthy hamburgers or hotdogs)

As the children arrive at school, their bags are put away and they are allowed to play with the educational toys until 8:00  we then have breakfast.  After breakfast the children are separated by age groups and entertained by activities suited to their ages.  E.g. counting, coloring, construction, drawing, writing, singing, dancing and playful competition.  This quality learning/playing time is enjoyed by everyone at the facility including the little babies.  It is incredible and inspiring to observe these children growing and learning.  At 12:00 we serve lunch, this is followed by and afternoon nap. We also accommodate children who are attending “Big School” at our facility and provide them with a cooked lunch when the arrive.  Whilst the younger children are having their nap we spend quality time with the after care children, supervising their homework and keeping them entertained.  Once all the children are awake we serve afternoon tea, this is usually at 15:00.  The remainder of the afternoon activities constitute free play, story time, movies and any other stimulating activity.  The children have a huge playing area outdoors with lots of fun equipment and toys, which were obtained through small donations and collections.

De Beer’s Child Care Facility was registered as a non profit organization on   7 December 2006.  Initially financing for the facility was safely maintained through a personal loan, from which we currently still withdraw, unfortunately this will not last forever. Locally we have been assisted by various organizations who have donated necessary items such as groceries.

We have been registered with the Department of Welfare and Population as a NPO Facility and have been paid several visits by them.

Presently we are renting our accommodation, this is a huge expense at R4500.00 per month, escalating at 9% per annum.

As our main objective for the immediate future we would like to be able to purchase property.  Unfortunately without your help we will never achieve this.  Once we have been able to secure permanent accommodation we would like to be able to expand our facility to a “Night Care” and would like to offer boarding as well.  One of our objectives would be ultimately to assist the Department of Welfare by taking in infants who need a place of safety and children who are awaiting foster care and adoption.

We desperately need assistance to acquire the necessary funds to accomplish our goals.

Help us help the children and provide for a better education, social grounding and a brighter future.
